James C. Grifo passed away on Aug. 17, 2017 at home in Mendham surrounded by his family. He was 92.
Born in Easton, PA he lived in Glen Ridge before moving to Mendham in 1992.
He served in the Army during WWII from 1943-1945 and was a member of the American Legion Post 315 in Mendham.
He was a longtime member of the Greater Morristown Area YMCA.
He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences in 1950.
He was the founder of Avalon Dyeing and Finishing a textiles processing plant in in Haledon NJ for 39 years before retiring in 1994.
He is survived by his wife June, and eight children;Shelby Swayze and her husband Michael of Philadelphia, , Suzanne Grifo of Montclair, Jamie Grifo and his wife Anne of NY, NY, Jeffrey Grifo and his wife Laura of Little Falls, Stephanie Botwick and her husband Joel of Randolph, Stacey McClutchy and her husband Joseph of Mendham, Sandra Montimurroand her husband Mark of Montclair , and Sheila Fredericks of Mendham, one sister Nellie Erkinger of Allentown, PA and one brother, Mackie Grifo of OH.He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren; Ian Swayze, Sasha Swayze Dews, Austin Swayze, Jamie P. Grifo, Christopher Grifo, Maggie Grifo, Isabella Grifo, Biagia Grifo, Jennifer Grifo, Max Botwick, Ethan Botwick, Cassie McClutchy Farmer, Luke Fredericks, Juliette Fredericks and Tommy Fredericks and 10 great grandchildren; Jack Swayze, Evelyn, Clara and Louisa Dews, Sebastian and RyderSwayze, Oliver and Simone Grifo and Joey and Jameson Farmer.
He was predeceased by his siblings; Jack Grifo, Emily Herbert, Richard Grifo and Jean Reese and his son-in law Glenn Fredericks
Visitation Monday Aug. 21, 2017 from 4-8pm at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Rd., Mendham. Funeral Mass Tuesday 10 am at St. Joseph Church Mendham. Interment Mendham Hilltop Cemetery.
