Irma Carleton Spatz, daughter of the late May and Harry Carleton of Jersey City, died January 31, 2017 at the age of 99. Irma was predeceased by her son, Bobby and her husband, Vincent. She is survived by her daughter Cookie Obsitnik and husband Tom of Gig Harbor, WA, son Paul and his wife Nancy of Pittstown, NJ, and son Phil and his wife Cindy of Lavallette, NJ. In addition, Irma had eight grandchildren: Christina, Melissa, Katie, Erika, Stephanie, Mark, Brian, and Trevor. She was also fortunate to have two caring and loving caretakers, Tyese Atkinson and Claudia Chin, in her life. Irma was born and raised in Jersey City, where she graduated from St. Aloysius Academy. She was also a graduate of Georgian Court University. Most recently, Irma was a resident at Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls. She was a tireless volunteer at the Rosary Shrine in Summit, as well as St. Joseph’s Church in Mendham. Irma was also a Red Cross ambulance driver during WWII transporting wounded soldiers. She was a veracious reader, had a quick wit, and loved the Jersey Shore. Our loving memories of Irma will live on…

Visitation Friday, February 3rd from 5-7pm at The Bailey Funeral Home, 176 Main St., Peapack, NJ. A Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Saturday at noon in Mendham, followed by a burial service at Hilltop Cemetery, also in Mendham, NJ.
