Richard L . Enright passed away peacefully on July 7, 2017, in the comfort of his home. He was 84.
Born in Mendham in 1933, he was a lifelong resident of Mendham Borough. He worked for the Morris County Probation Department for 36 years, including 23 years as Assistant Chief of Probation, before retiring in 1992. Along with Judge Bertram Polow, he was instrumental in the establishment of a Juvenile Intake Project that became a model for 20 other counties. Despite demands of work and family, he found time to be a tenor in choirs for close to 60 years and to become a daily communicant at St. Lawrence Church. He also was an avid golfer and a most loyal Philadelphia Eagles fan.
Additionally, Richard became a coach for CYO Basketball and a coach for Little League after he started his own family. Years later, he assumed the duties of a coordinator of the Madison branch of Swim Inc., and offered his assistance with many other volunteer opportunities.
Though he was glad to be known as "Coach," "Chief" or "Coordinator" to so many, he still preferred being called "Dad" or "Pop." Whenever he had the chance, he was proud to share stories about his children, Richard Enright of Devens, MA, Kevin Enright of Middlesex, NJ, Catherine Enright of Mendham, NJ, Debbie Cortale of Middletown, NJ, Henry Enright of Upper Montclair, NJ and Sean Enright of Rockaway, NJ. When he became a grandfather, he was known as “Pop” to his eleven grandchildren and could not have been more joyful about their accomplishments. He also considered himself extremely fortunate to have grown up with his beloved siblings, John Enright, Margaret Ford (deceased) and Mary Stauffer.
Lastly, his faith in God was unwavering…
"For what it's worth: The most comfort I have ever received in life came from my belief that 'God knows what he is doing.'" - Richard L. Enright
